A short cruise – a short post – a very short post – by Podge’s standards

This time, Podge & Tubbs return to their other favourite ship, The Azura. This was to be a short 7-night break primarily to celebrate Podge’s Birthday, even though Tubbs’s Birthday Cruise was 14 nights long. But let’s not worry too much as Podge has a 42 night cruise at the end of 2026 for his next birthday while this time, it will be Tubbs who has to make do with a 7-night Birthday Cruise. Poor Tubbs.

This cruise starts with a flight to Tenerife after which they visit Madeira, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, then back to Tenerife where the main birthday activities will be packing for the flight home the next day 😞. But at least they’ll be on a P&O ship and there’s nowhere they’d rather be.

The flight out was only 4.5 hours but long enough to have a couple of drinks (wee drams for Podge and Fizzy Pop for Tubbs). The silly person asked Podge if he wanted anything with his whisky! Yes please, he answered rather cheekily, another one please 😋. Tubbs was paying so, why not?

On landing at Tenerife, all that was required was to make their way through security and Passport Control then onto waiting buses to be whisked off to the cruise terminal where they then checked in, went though Cruise Security and boarded the lovely Azura. From there they checked in at the muster station after which they went directly to their quarters (suite of course). Once acquainted with their cabin steward and Butler and, of course their luggage, which they duly unpacked, they sat back and relaxed before making their way to the Glass House.

One bottle of Breaky Bottom and two glasses in hand, they sat down and planned what there going to do for what was after all a short cruise. Podge made a start by saying that unlike the Britannia, the Epicurean Restaurant was three decks up from their suite which amounted to 6-flights of stairs: Tubbs relented and agreed to Podge using the lift. They also agreed that as Tenerife had fallen out of favour with them, they would make the most of the ships facilities such as The Glass House, The Planet Bar, The Blue Bar and of course their own balcony.

Their first stop was Madeira where they would wonder up the main drag until they found The Ritz where they would have lunch. For Gran Canaria, they would visit Porto Mogan for their favourite eatery. In Lanzarote they would simply walk around the lagoon to a rather nice Tapas Bar they visited on their last trip. The final day would be back in Tenerife where they would be packing but also, celebrating Podge’s Birthday in a kind of lazy way (why not?). And that was pretty much it.

It was a short cruise (and so a short post) just to be with P&O for a birthday, have a lazy time and know that they would be back in March for a much longer [20 night] cruise (and a much longer post) where the Azura would once again ‘do’ the Canaries before repositioning to the Mediterranean ultimately concluding in Valletta, Malta.
