Again, what does one do on a Cruise Ship on yet another sea day? Well, one can take part in so many arranged activities taking place all around the ship from Deck 5 all the way up to Deck 16. That just isn’t our bag so, as usual on a sea day, we just chillaxed taking in the suns rays and drinking lots and lots of water (to start with). Today was however supposed to be different: Today we would be doing a [slow cruise by] of Dominica.
Until today, we always claimed that Dominica was one of our favourite islands, and to be honest it is, yet we haven’t actually been there since December 2008! But it still remains in our hearts as one of our favourites. We were once told that when Christopher Columbus was asked to describe Dominica, so called because he ‘discovered’ it on a Sunday, he simply screwed up a piece of paper or cloth or whatever, threw it on the table and said ‘That is Dominica‘. Whether it’s true or not I don’t know but it is a pretty good description. For us, the most memorable was the Emerald Pool. Apparently, if one swims in the pool, it adds 10 years to your life (maybe I should have taken a dip 🤔)
Anyway, apparently, we did do a cruise by but typical of Podge and Tubbs, we missed it so we have no pictures but hey ho, we’ve been there so we knew what it was like anyway: We will surely return.
The rest of our day was spent as ever on a [See The] Sea Day, relaxing on the balcony, enjoying an occasional drink before switching to the Sunset Bar for ‘fivesies’ before going to dinner, this time in the Sindhu. I have to say, I’ve had the privilege of eating in Atul Kochhar’s Restaurant in Mayfair and will happily go back (Podge even ate broccoli there) but the Sindhu offerings bore no similarity. Choosing wisely we chose Gosht Murtabak (Spiced Ground Beef Flatbread, Onion Relish, Curry Sauce) to start and Sindhu Signature Plate (Coconut Prawn Masala, Chicken Tariwala Curry, Lamb Bhuna) as a main all of which was supported by a selection of chutney dips, rice, and breads, etc. And all very yummy it was but, give me Atul’s mainland restaurant anytime. That said, we did enjoy all we ate and the accompanying wines were of course well received. As for the venue, it is an asset to the Britannia though we, personally, still prefer the Epicurean.
As for today being St Patricks day, we seem to have missed whatever went on though I suspect most of the celebrations took place in Brodie’s – A pub like venue with karaoke, game shows and live entertainment – Podge & Tubbs never went there; it was all too raucous for us oldies but extremely popular with many. 🥴 Podge did however wear his dark green velvet DJ and dark green bowtie as it was after all a formal night.
As the evening drew to a close, we predictably retired to the Crows Nest for a nightcap or two before weaving our way back our cabin/suite where Tubbs was in her ‘marshmallow’ bed (as she calls it) and was asleep before I had even poured my last whisky of the night sitting on the balcony listening to the sea as we made our way towards St Kitts.
Again, we failed to go to bed the same day we got up.
Step count – 4515 🥴
