Thanks to forward planning on the part of The Duchess, we had managed to secure a table for Dinner in The Limelight Club this evening to see ‘The One and Only’ Chesney Hawkes. So, we had much to look forward to for the 2nd day of our 2nd cruise. But first, we need to complete some unavoidable chores.
Obviously, when you’re away for three consecutive cruises which included a flight at the beginning, there are limits as to what can be brought: Shirts, shorts & trousers weren’t a problem as these could be handled by the onboard laundry service and, with a 50% discount, why not? There was still however the little matter of the smaller garments like pants and socks 🥴. As so it was that today, we did the one thing we vowed we’d never, ever do: We used the onboard laundrette 🫣. It was ok though, there was nobody else in there. We’d reckoned that with most people departing would have left by midday and the newbies arriving after 14:00 we had a 2-hour window to complete the task. And, with the support of a couples of glasses of Sauvignon, we succeeded. We almost, emphasis on almost, enjoyed it.
To celebrate our successful laundry day, we treated ourselves to a couple of glasses of vino in our favourite bar, the Sunset Bar; Even after 50 odd cruises, The Sunset Bar will always be our favourite bar. Let’s face it, what could be better than sitting at the back (stern) of the ship, soaking up the vitamin D from the warming sun-rays and enjoying a glass of ones favourite tipple.
Inevitably, when one spends so much time in the Sunset Bar, one gets to know the crew that work there and over the past two weeks one of waitresses had picked up on our likes such that we had no need to attract a waiter as whenever we arrived, she was there ready to bring our favourite drinks (Pink Gin Spritz and Mai Tai) for us. So we were quite sad when we found that she went home the previous day and didn’t even tell us 🥺. So, n this day we looked to find our table and looked around for a waiter when lo and behold, we saw a new waitress and she was called Nancy. We knew it was Nancy because she was on the Azura for our last cruise (it was in fact my 70th Birthday cruise) and we both got on really well with her: So much so that when we were saying goodbye on the Azura we mentioned that we would be on the Britannia the following year, Nancy was so excited as she was to be joining the Britannia in time for our second cruise. And yes, Nancy did know what drinks we liked so all was well in the world of Podge and Tubbs.
Come evening, it was time for us to get ready for promised to be a magic evening meal in The Limelight Club while enjoying the talent of ‘The One and Only’ Chesney Hawkes and wow!, Chesney is truly ‘The One and Only’. He was amazing not just in his singing but in his stories of his life and times as a young Chesney Hawkes. We didn’t even know for instance that his father was a member of the Tremeloes. We certainly didn’t know that John Lennon had given his father his piano and it was the piano that had inspired Chesney.
Come the end of the show and truly blown away (we would certainly go to see him again) we made our way to the Crows Nest for our evening cocktail before, eventually, retiring to bed the day after we had got up.
