22-23/03-2024 – Everybody has their favourite ship and, what works for one person won’t necessarily work for another. We have been lucky enough to sail on P&Os:

  • Adonia;
  • Arcadia (got married on her);
  • Artemis;
  • Aurora;
  • Azura;
  • Britannia;
  • Iona;
  • Oceana;
  • Oriana and;
  • Ventura.

Of them all (we’ve still to try the Arvia) we love the Britannia the most: She is such a happy ship

Breakfast gave us mixed emotions. One of happiness and even smugness as we were starting our final of 3 back-to-back cruises and so while most people were either leaving or preparing to leave, we were [again] staying on. Not to be [too] smug about it we were quite relaxed and looking forward to meeting new friends in Barbados though not necessarily looking forward to saying au revoir (never, ever goodbye) to our old friends.

Post breakfast, we partook in what was now a favourite of ours, which is to watch the passengers departing but more interestingly, watching the ship restock. The Britannia has a maximum guest capacity of over 3500. Each passenger has at least one suite case (we normally bring 4 to 6 between us): assuming 90% of the guests disembark over the two day turnaround period, that’s a lot of luggage to take off, then bring on for the new passengers. On top of that they need to restock all the food and drinks plus whatever else: It really is just mind boggling. As an aside however, we did spot a monkey on one of the rooftops. I didn’t even know there was monkeys on Barbados but there most definitely are, see: – Barbados monkeys.

We spent 2-days in Barbados for the turnaround (shifting up to 7000 people plus their luggage and supplies, especially Podge’s, takes quite some time) during which we pretty much relaxed on our balcony, popped over to the shops (Tubbs must know every nook and cranny of every one of the port-side shops by now) and, as we did on day 16, go to do our laundry (this is becoming a habit!) and refresh our smalls as well as sorting out what needed to be cleaned and pressed (not by us). In between all that, we relaxed in the Sunset Bar and enjoyed the hospitality of the Glass House and Beach House.

Naturally, our evenings were spent in the Crows Nest for some lovely Cosmopolitans and Malt Whiskies and of course, to christen the next cruise, a BAFTA Cocktail before retiring to bed, once more the day after we actually got up.

We feel we need to put it a daily appearance at the Crows Nest in case Brian the Head Barman tells us off for being AWOL (see Day 22)

Step Count: – 9173 🥴
