19/03/24 – Back to Antigua today.
On the agenda today is another sail-away ‘bit of a do’ with cocktails & canapés with the opportunity to mingle with the officers. But, before all that, we must once again venture into town to see if there is anything we need or if there is any bar that takes our fancy, such as Hemingway’s.
Reading the excellent Port Guides that P&O always provide, we espied a restaurant that we’d never seen before called Hemingway’s, located in a historical West Indian styled building overlooking St. Mary’s Street and Redcliffe Quay. This seemed just the spot for us to go along and while away an hour or two with a couple (ish) of cocktails and simply watch the world below go by from the first floor veranda. Eventually however the heat got the better of us and we felt the need to make our way back to the ship (before the cocktails got the better of us) while checking out the shops on the way. Another newsflash, Tubbs saw and bought nothing. Podge is starting to worry that she may be unwell. 🤔
Finding our way to the ship was easy, all we had to do was follow the noise emanating from the bar directly behind our ship: Personally, I loved it but the noise was very, very loud as my phone reminded me (see right) so both Tubbs and I went straight onto the ship and back to our own secluded balcony for a nice cool glass of wine followed by a siesta before the ‘bit of a do’ sail-away cocktails and canapés.

As per the previous sail-away, we made our way to the cookery club then out onto the open decks to mingle with other passengers and of course the officers. The priority for Podge however was, and always will be, to make friends with those serving the drinks and food and sure enough that was what happened, resulting in extra bub bubs (yummy food) and drinks; the old adage still holds true, be nice to others and they’ll be nice to you.

And so it was that we chatted away to passenger, chatted away to officers, had our picture taken (Podge’s shirts is starting to look a little snug 🥴) , ate and drank and totally forgot that we were supposed to be there to enjoy the sail-away from Antigua: By the time we remembered, Antigua was way off in the distance and the Britannia was setting course for St Maarten.
By now, all the exertion of the last 26 days has taken its toll and poor Podge and Tubbs agreed that today, an early night would be a good idea and so retired to our quarters meaning that we actually went to bed on the same day we got up.
Step count – 7104 🥴
